Instructionally Challenged

As someone who generally has issues with following instructions, when cooking/baking, I tend to look at the pictures on the box rather than actually reading the directions. Well, this past week, while baking some cupcakes for a friends birthday, i had an epiphany. I was making white cupcakes with rainbow, sprinkly icing =) and apparently to make the cake actually white, yo are only supposed to use the egg whites, and, well, i only saw the picture of three eggs on the box.......needless to say the cupcakes were not white, but a lovely yellowish color (but still delicious!) But during all of this, I realized how we sometimes treat God that way. We expect God to do things in our lives and do stuff for us. We want him to show up and bless us, but all we are getting is a view of what God is. But do we ever go in our Bibles or talk to God as if we were looking for instructions? We see an image of what our life could be, so we strive for that, but what if we are seeing only part of the recipe? Maybe we are only getting part of God, because we arn't reading all the way into it?
